Falling back in love with the Lakes: my first climb of Skiddaw

In July 2011, I headed back to Keswick to climb Skiddaw, and rediscovered my love for the Lake District in the process.

The phototoxic trail: why I wouldn't walk stage three of the Salford Trail again

This week I walked stage three of the Salford Trail, from Lower Kersal to Clifton Country Park, along the banks of the River Irwell. It’s a fascinating section of trail, but I didn’t enjoy it for one reason - the sheer proliferation of giant hogweed along the route.

Salford Trail stage eight: Barton to Salford Quays

Let’s not sweeten it - this is a road walk through suburban and industrial Eccles and Salford. That’s not to say that there isn’t plenty to see, including a Grade 1 listed church and the Blue Peter garden!

Salford Trail stage five: Roe Green to Walkden

Stage five of the Salford Trail runs from Roe Green to Walkden via the fields of Linnyshaw, Blackleach Country Park, and Little Hulton. Along the way, I found time to retrace my steps to Salford’s highest point, and made another visit to the locks at Ashton’s Field.

Salford Trail stage seven: Worsley village to Barton Aqueduct

My second venture onto the Salford Trail took me from Worsley village to the aqueduct at Barton - via Worsley Woods, a giant hammer, and the world’s oldest railway pub. I hope you enjoy watching!
