A short walk to Taylor Gill Force
The 140 foot plunge of Taylor Gill Force nestles in a ravine on the lower slopes of Base Brown. You can see it from the path from Seathwaite to Styhead Tarn - one of the most common routes to Scafell Pike - but to get a proper look, you need to take the parallel path on the northern side of the infant River Derwent.

Following in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes in Conan Doyle’s 1893 short story, “The Final Problem”, which ended with the famous confrontation at the Reichenbach Falls. Using the words of Dr John Watson as a guide, I headed from the Rhône to the Reichenbach Falls via the Gemmipass - and then on to Rosenlaui, the place Holmes and Watson set out for, but never reached.
